Randy Pobst and Gilbert Racing look for redemption.

The always-tough Gilbert Racing Team arrives at Mid-Ohio with high hopes, but on-track incident forces the team to concentrate on rebuilding the car to stay on top of the favored-to-win list.

HOT STREAK. Randy Pobst is on a roll. It seems that the popular Porsche Factory Driver has total control of every car he races. From winning both of the last two SPEED World Challenge GT Events to this weekend's Grand-Am Cup Race -- part of the CART Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio-- Pobst and co-driver Henry Gilbert, ( in the Gilbert Racing /Gemballa Porsche GT-3 Cup Racecar, are set to be a safe bet to be strong contenders this weekend in Ohio.

NOT IMMUNE. While it is true that Pobst has been hot lately -- and that even without the 90 degree-plus heat he has been racing in -- being on a streak does not in any way keep a team safe from problems. During a routine test session at the historic Central Ohio road course, Gilbert suffered a malfunction of a right rear wheel's air valve. Fortunately, it happened on a straight section of the track; however, Gilbert, totally surprised by the sudden loss of pressure in the tire, spun off track. The Gilbert Racing / Gemballa Porsche GT-3 Cup car sustained damage on all-four corners. Gilbert was uninjured and the crew is hard at work to get the car race-ready.

"I just can't believe this," Gilbert said this morning."I was really looking forward to vindication for what happened at Watkins Glen, but, the guys are working hard and we were fortunate to get some parts from a local Porsche dealer, so I think we're in business!"

VINDICATION. The last time this team competed in a Grand-Am Cup event, it was at Watkins Glen Raceway. The team was on-target all to finish the three-hour endurance race near the top; however, a mid-race pit snafu cost them eight positions on the track. The whole weekend they were fast. This weekend in the Midwestern US Summer heat, they look for that vindication.

"I just feel great about being back in the Gilbert / Gemballa car," said Pobst."Every time I have driven it, I have had good, steady results. I am very sorry for what happened to Henry yesterday, but to see how hard the guys are working, it is nothing but total credit to them. They've literally attacked that car!"

MID-OHIO PREVIEW. Both drivers enjoy the beautiful natural terrain road course and, as mentioned, look for a good showing this weekend. Rest assured that every possible effort will be made to have that car on track by the next test session.
