#41 Planet Earth Motorsports preview: Young gun Wayne Nonnamaker having incredible run

Sports Car racing has a seen a real resurgence in the last few years of young new talent. Out of that rebirth has come a new generation of drivers ready to take the charge.

One excellent example of this new generation of driver is young Wayne Nonnamaker. Although Wayne has been racing professionally since 1998, he only just recently celebrated his 25th birthday on April 30th.

Wayne has had an incredible run over the last seven Grand-Am Cup weekends, winning a total of six times.

Known prior to the 2003 season as just a front wheel drive expert, Wayne has adapted very quickly to his new mount - the SpeedSource Porsche 911. After only four races this season, Wayne and his father Joe are leading the Grand Sports II class driver championship. In fact, Wayne set the fastest lap of the race at the recent event at Barber Park in Alabama.

Not one to forget his roots, Wayne has returned in 2003 to the ST II class at both the Phoenix and Barber Park events, with a fastest race lap in Alabama as an explanation point.

Last year Wayne co-drove with his brother Will to the ST II Driver Championship. Along the way, Wayne captured five pole positions, and four fastest race laps

In 2001, Wayne assisted Will in winning the ST II Driver Championship. Prior to that, Wayne won the 1999 ST I Driver Championship as co-Champion with his brother.

"I know being his father makes me a little partial, but Wayne's adaptation to the Porsche has been amazing," states Joe Nonnamaker. "He not only can be blazingly fast, but shows a maturity and patience that many season veterans don't display."

Beyond competing in the Grand-Am Cup GS II and ST II classes, Wayne is also running in selected Grand American Rolex GT events throughout the season. Recently at Barber Park, Wayne shared the #40 SpeedSource Porsche to score a fifth place finish. Wayne shared the car with his brother, Will, and his father, Joe. It marked the first time that the three co-drove in a professional race together. All of this racing has landed Wayne second in the National Valvoline Cup for full bodied sports cars.

Partners supporting Wayne's 2003 Campaign are GOJO and ORISON Marketing, Fikse Wheels, Kempthorn Auto Mall, Pagid Brakes, Porsche, SpeedSource, and
