Automatic Racing Qualifies 12th and 16th for Grand-Am Cup California 200

FONTANA, Calif. -- Automatic Racing is set to start round three of the Grand-Am Cup Series season, the California 200 at California Speedway, after qualifying 12th and 16th.

Jep Thornton qualified the No. 09 BMW M3, driving a fast lap of 1:50.739. The sixth through 12th qualifiers were all within one second of each other, making for tight competition.

Currently, the No. 09 Automatic Racing BMW is second in the team championship. With their sights set on first, the team is looking forward to earning valuable points in the race.

"The car has been great," said Thornton. "It's really tough here with so many strong teams entered. There are 20 different cars that could win today. It will be an interesting race."

Thornton will be co-driving with David Russell in the race.

Dave Riddle qualified the No. 90 BMW M3, fondly called "The Riddler" because of its green bodywork with giant black question marks- a paint scheme inspired by Riddle's last name. He put in a fast lap of 1:51.155 to qualify 16th in the car that he will share with Kris Wilson.

The California 200 begins this afternoon at 2:45 pm PST.
