Spirit of Daytona Posts a Top-Five Lap Time at the Daytona Test

The Grand Sport class will take on a whole new feel this 2006 season with the introduction of the Spirit of Daytona GTO. The last practice session laps held on Saturday, January 7 provided the Grand-Am Cup GTO with a top-five lap time. Marc-Antoine Camirand posted the top-five speed after the team reworked the GTO's brake setup in the early afternoon practice session.

Camirand noticed that the car's braking points improved and could be driven more aggressively on the track. "The car still needs a little more work, but today the baseline was easier to follow. Usually with a street car like this it is hard to notice the small changes it goes through compared to the way the Prototypes react. But I felt the change up today."

After Camirand's stint in the GTO, Mike Weinberg was the last Spirit of Daytona driver to race on the Daytona International Speedway and exclaimed, "the car was really amazing in regards to the change it went through compared the first time I got behind the wheel. This is a slippery track but the car really bites down hard. Today the balance was a lot better and the car was easier to drive."

Spirit of Daytona will have one last practice session this January before it competes in the first Grand-Am Cup race of 2006. With three weeks left before the Grand-Am Cup race and the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, Spirit of Daytona will be in high gear.
