Team Sahlen Fields Two Father-Son Co-Drivers to Daytona
Two of the five Team Sahlen Porsches will feature father-son co-drivers for the first Grand-Am Cup race of the 2006 season. This is in addition to their full drivers lineup for the 2006 season in the Grand Sport class.
The first father-son duo will be in the Team Sahlen No. 44 car. Chris and Eric Lux will join together for their first Grand-Am Cup race as co-drivers, and Chris' first race with Team Sahlen. Eric, a teenage driving sensation, is familiar face within Team Sahlen. He entered his first 24 Hour race just last year with the team's Grand American Rolex effort.
Eric not only inherited his love of sports car racing from his father but also gained it from his mother, Mimi. The Lux's who reside in Buffalo, New York have been avid sports car racing fans and participants for quite some time. Eric says of racing, "It's just something I always wanted to do."
In the Team Sahlen No. 41 car will be father-son co-drivers Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker. Last year the duo took a podium finish at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. Wayne spoke about driving in this year's Grand-Am Cup 200.
"This is always an exciting event for us. The entire experience for the weekend is excellent. Getting to co-drive through the season with my dad is great and I am sure the Lux family is excited as well," stated Wayne.
Even further extending the family ties for the team will be Wayne's brother, Will in the Team Sahlen No. 41 car. Will's co-driver will be Joe Sahlen another Buffalo, New York native and owner of Sahlen's Packing, Co.
The Team Sahlen No. 43 car will be Bryan Ortiz and Victor Gonzalez, Jr. This will be the duo's first race together at Daytona after Ortiz joined the team in 2005. Gonzalez competed in last years Rolex 24 with Team Sahlen's Grand American Rolex Effort.
Derek Sabol will also join Team Sahlen in the No. 40. Sabol only recently celebrated his sixteenth birthday and will be entering in his very first full Grand-Am Cup season. Sabol comes to the team from Lake Havasu, Arizona.
