Spirit of Daytona's GTO Ride

The Grand-Am Cup driver lineup for the Spirit of Daytona #9 Microflex sponsored Grand Sport GTO and #10 Rockland Standard Gears/Microflex Grand Sport GTO will be familiar faces from the team's 12 plus years of existence. The #9 GTO will be driven by 2002 Rolex 24 Hours AGT class Champions, Doug Goad and Craig Conway. Goad and Conway will co-pilot the GTO street stock sedan which is reminiscent of their past Firehawk Series race careers in the Grand-Am Cup 200 on Friday, January 27 at 2:15PM. Goad, co-owner/driver, of Spirit of Daytona will also be welcoming two other familiar teammates to propel the #10 Rockland Standard Gears/Microflex GTO to a podium finish. Past teammate, Mike Weinberg and SCCA alum Bryan Collyer, will drive the #10 GTO in the Grand-Am Cup 200. Both GTOs will be carrying associate sponsors: CORSA Performance, Crane Cams and GCC Servicing System.

Three of the four GTO drivers had one last practice session at Roebling Raceway on Friday January 20. There, Bryan Collyer, Central Florida Regional SCCA American Sedan Champ was able to test drive the #10 Rockland Standard Gears/Microflex GTO for the first time. "It was just a thrill to be at a private test with a quality team. Compared to my SCCA American Sedan, there is a world of difference. This car has more horsepower and better balance. Right now it's just new out of the box," said Collyer. Goad and Conway also took the #9 GTO out during the Roebling Raceway test. "The car is a lot of fun to drive," said Goad. "The team keeps on improving the GTO's setup and I can't wait for race day."

As the two GTOs take to the track for the first race of the 2006 season, Spirit of Daytona will be welcoming Southeast Regional GTO drivers to the Spirit of Daytona/RIDE GTO Car Corral. GTO drivers from around the Southeast region and the country will be able to take their GTOs for a parade lap on the famed Daytona International Speedway at 11:00AM on race day and park their cars in the infield GTO Car Corral. Spirit of Daytona, and the Daytona Beach Retail Store, RIDE, will be sponsoring the car corral to encourage GTO pride and to say thank you to all their newly acquired GTO race fans.
