Planet Earth Motorsports takes the #41 SpeedSource Porsche to Daytona victory in Grand Sports II
Daytona Beach, FL -- In their first race with the car, Planet Earth Motorsports brought home victory with the #41 SpeedSource Porsche 911. The 2003 season started off at Daytona International Speedway, and in a fitting fashion, Planet Earth Motorsports won the race by conserving fuel.
"At Daytona there are some V-8 machines that really out pace us," commented winning driver Joe Nonnamaker. "They have ponies under their hood we can't come close to matching. Instead of fighting them today, we took another approach and drafted them the entire race, conserving fuel all along the way. It worked out as we finished the race on fumes and took the win."
With the support of Orison Marketing and Gojo, Planet Earth Motorsports educates the public and the race technicians about safe environmental practices and products. One of the key elements in safe environmental practices is "reduce", and that is what the Planet Earth team did by saving fuel in the race.
"SpeedSource built an excellent car," commented Wayne Nonnamaker, Joe's son and co-driver. "Even though we qualified seventh, they (SpeedSource) told us we had a shot at winning with this car, and they were right! The only thing that could have possibly made this win any better is if (my brother) Will could have drove with us as well, but he is busy trying to win his third straight STII Championship."
Additional support for the 2003 campaign comes from Fikse Wheels, Kempthorn Auto Mall, TheRaceSite.com, Dynamic Suspension, Red Line Oil, and TheRaceMarket.com. The Daytona race was the first race of an eleven race season as Planet Earth Motorsports attempts to capture the Grand Sports II Championship. The next race will be held on April 13th at Homestead International Raceway.
Catch the Daytona 250 as it is aired on Speed TV February 8th at noon.
