Daytona Beach, FL -- After a long eleven race season Planet Earth Motorsports has claimed the 2003 Triple Crown Championship in the Grand Am Cup Grand Sports II category. The season concluded at Daytona International Raceway where the team scored third and fourth place finishes.
"We came down here needing to beat all the BMW's to win the Manufacturer's championship," commented Wayne Nonnamaker. "We were able to beat them and only lose to a couple of V8 Mustangs, which are very hard to beat on the high banks of Daytona."
Wayne Nonnamaker shared the Driver's Championship with his father, Joe. In the season finale this weekend Joe started the #41 SpeedSource Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche for Wayne Nonnamaker and finished the #42 Porsche for his other son, Will Nonnamaker.
"Tonight was just fantastic. I can't believe we won everything we came to do. We won the drivers championship, the manufacturers championship and the team championship, the triple crown for this year," noted Joe Nonnamaker. "It was especially great for me to score two top four finishes with both of my sons!"
"The season came down to the last race for all three Championships," added Wayne Nonnamaker. "Our competitors made this season a very exciting one and a very challenging one. Forrest Barber and Terry Borcheller had a great season in the Bell Motorsports BMW and the Michael Baughman Racing Pontiac Firebirds were always battling us for wins and podiums."
Will Nonnamaker scored the fourth place finish with the team's #42 Porsche 911 Type 996.
"The Porsche is such a great car to drive." added Will. "They have been bullet-proof this entire season. SpeedSource and Porsche have been great assets to the team's performance on the track.
"The team also wants to thank Orison Marketing and GOJO for their support of the Planet Earth Motorsports concept. This season marked the 8th season for the campaign and each year it has been exciting to continue to spread the word of positive environmental citizenship."
The final tally saw the team score four wins and eight podiums in the Grand Sports II class. In addition to the performance the team had a perfect finishing record as no entry in the 2004 season failed during the races.
Partners in the 2003 Campaign are GOJO and ORISON Marketing. Further Support includes Fikse Wheels, Kempthorn Auto Mall, Pagid Brakes, SpeedSource, TheRaceMarket.com and TheRaceSite.com.
The 2004 season will get underway the last week in January at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.
