Burrows and Hopwood Ready for MINI Daytona Debut
Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood will start their third season of Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge competition from the ninth row at Daytona International Speedway as the 2009 season kicks off with the Fresh From Florida 200 on Friday. The 2007 KONI Challenge Champions have been signed to drive the No. 198 RSR Motorsports Mini Cooper S and are looking to start the season off with a solid result on the high banks at Daytona.
Daytona has long been known for being an important place to draft, but the 15-minute qualifying session saw Burrows left out of it as the ST class field strung out over the course of the 3.65-mile circuit. Hoping to run with another car in line, Burrows wasn't able to make them a drafting partner after the infield speed of the MINI saw him too far in front to partner up. But Burrows knows that he'll have plenty of company come Friday.
"I was just running alone out there so I was giving up a ton of speed to the other guys," said Burrows. "We were hoping to be a little closer to the front on the grid, but we know that we should be ok for the race tomorrow. The MINI is awesome under braking and in the infield sections of the track, but we just give up a little on the long straights so hopefully we can make the most of that and get a solid finish to start the season off tomorrow. The RSR Motorsports guys have been great, and we're just looking forward to a fun race on Friday."
The Fresh From Florida 200 will teak the green flag at 1:15 PM on Friday.
