Grand-Am Adds David Spitzer as Vice President of Competition
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 25, 2008) -- Grand-Am announced today the hiring of David Spitzer as the Vice President of Competition. Spitzer will oversee all aspects of the Grand-Am competition department, including the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 and the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series as well as other Grand-Am sanctioned series.
With experience in both sports cars and open-wheel racing, Spitzer has served in a variety of roles throughout a long career in motorsports. Serving most recently as a Product Manager in Cadillac Marketing, he was charged with developing a new global vehicle architecture for the luxury line. Prior to that, Spitzer was the Program Manager for Cadillac's SCCA World Challenge GT effort, overseeing the entire program.
"The addition of the Vice President of Competition is another example of the growth of Grand-Am continuing a positive trend," said Grand-Am President Roger Edmondson. "David Spitzer will head up the competition department to ensure that our on-track product remains the best in motorsports."
The Elmira, N. Y. native will be a familiar face for many in the Grand-Am paddock. Spitzer managed the engine program for the class-winning Oldsmobile Aurora V8 sedans at the 1996 Rolex 24 At Daytona, helped design and develop the Aurora V8 engine for the IndyCar Series, and held several roles within the Cadillac Le Mans Prototype program.
"Grand-Am has a number of very dynamic racing series," Spitzer said. "Roger Edmondson and his management team have built amazing racing products with a strong business foundation. I look forward to working with our many partners to build on the momentum that Grand-Am enjoys."
A graduate of Cornell University, Spitzer joins a competition staff that recently added Gary Cummings as Rolex Series Manager and Jeff Smallwood as KONI Challenge Series Manager to oversee the continuously growing fields in each of Grand-Am's top level series.
Spitzer joins COO Tom Bledsoe and Vice President of Marketing and Communications Kevin Hindson as recent executive hires tasked with continuing the growth of Grand-Am.
