Back to back weekends for parallel Rolex Sports Car Series and KONI Challenge Mustang Cobra GT campaigns
Deland, FL (17 May 07)- Blackforest Motorsports is ready to go as the Florida-based team gears up for two consecutive weekends of racing, set on the opposite sides of the country. Utilizing two different specification Ford Mustang GTs, the team will compete in both the Grand-Am KONI Challenge and Rolex Sports Car Series categories at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend before heading back East to race at Lime Rock Park over the Memorial Day weekend.
The Laguna event will see Valerie Limoges team with new Blackforest driver Travis Walker in the USG/Ramset Tools Ford Mustang FR500C for the first time as the young Canadian prepares to revisit the site of her best KONI finish to date, having scored fourth at the famed 2.2-mile circuit during her rookie season last year.
"I am looking forward to having Travis as my teammate this weekend and it'd be great to make it on the podium," said Limoges, who won her first KONI Challenge pole position and led much of the Homestead race in April. "I love almost all the tracks we go to, but obviously Laguna is an awesome place and I have a lot more confidence than I did in my rookie season last year, so I'm optimistic about the weekend."
Another reason for her optimism could be the flawless form Blackforest has shown in KONI competition, as Limoges scored the Homestead pole while Blackforest driver Tom Nastasi has a perfect record of wins so far in 2007, having stood atop the podium in the first three races of the season.
Nastasi will look to keep that streak alive this weekend as he teams with multiple series championship winner David Empringham in both the KONI Challenge event as well as the Rolex Sports Car Series GT-only race on Saturday afternoon. Empringham and Nastasi teamed to win the season-opening Fresh From Florida 200 at Daytona. The Laguna race will be Empringham's first start in the Blackforest Ford Mustang GT, which has shown considerable pace in initial race outings.
The Rolex GT class race will air on Speed Channel May 26th, 8:00 PM ET.
