Jason Workman co-drives V-Pack Motorsport BMW 330i at Barber
July 19, 2007: Co-driving the #24 V-Pack Motorsport BMW 330i with Matt Connolly, Jason Workman quickly established that the team is staged to be a contender this weekend at the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series Street Tuner division race on Saturday, July 21. In the first two practice sessions on Thursday, July 19, in what was Workman's the first time in the car, Workman found himself in P1 for the first time in his first race in Street Tuner division. Workman lapped in a fastest time of 1:43.320 (80.139 mph), .3 seconds faster than his friend, colleague and fellow Scandinavian Formula 2000 racer, Guy Cosmo in second place.
"I am very encouraged at this point," said Workman. "I think the car has more speed in it. We're going to lower the car and add softer springs and see what that does. I think we will be very competitive against a very competitive field. These cars are very close to one another in speed and it is a challenge to find the extra tenth or two that separates the grid positions. With continued good fortune, I think we will be very close to the front for the start of the race on Saturday."
Workman is gaining more experience in an ever-wider variety of cars and classes. The sports car ace has competed in every division of the Grand-Am Series from Daytona Prototypes through to today's new experience in the KONI Street Tuner category.
"I'm a racer," explained Workman. "When I get the chance to compete, I jump at it. It's what I do and I like to do it as often as possible. I'd like to thank my friend John Vincent for giving me a chance to compete here this weekend. I look forward to a very competitive run here at the beautiful Barber Motorsports Park. It should be a great race."
