Koni Challenge - 7th place at Barber Motorsports Park

The ninth round of the Koni Challenge season was held this past weekend just outside Birmingham , Alabama , at Barber Motorsport Park . It was a normal 2 1/2 hour GS only race on the 2.3 mile road course. Gué was paired with regular co-driver Bret Seafuse in the #37 JBS Motorsport FR500C Ford Mustang.

Gué was also scheduled to race with Tafel Racing in the #72 Porsche 997 GT car. However, just prior to the event in Barber, Tafel Racing made the decision to not race due to the events of last weekend in Iowa , where the other team car was written off in a practice accident.

Seafuse qualified the #37 car in 24th place on the grid out of a 37 car GS field, due to the clutch breaking after just one lap in qualifying. During the first hour and 35 minutes Seafuse worked his way all the way up to the 3rd position on pit strategy. With about an hour left in the race Gué took over the driving duties. After all the final pitstops were said and done Gué returned to the track in 15th place, and in the final hour he managed to work his way up to 7th position.

The current Koni Challenge point standings are: (1st) Thornton/Segal - 243, (2nd) Foster - 213, (3rd) Gué/Seafuse - 194 after 9 of 12 rounds.

Gué commented: "This was a great weekend for us, after poor finishes in the last three races, a solid top ten finish is exactly what we needed. I think the crew changed everything on the car in the first two days of testing searching for the setup, but it finally came right in the race. We made up points on 2nd place in the championship, and we are solidly in 3rd now. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going into 3 Rivers in a few weeks time."

The next race for the Koni Challenge will be at Trois-Rivieres, just outside Montreal, Canada. August 17th-19th.
