BILLY JOHNSON AND MTG Z4 M-COUPE SCORE THEIR SECOND TOP TEN FINISH OF THE YEAR.
BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK, Birmingham, AL (July 27, 2008) -- The Motorsport Technology Group BMW Z4 M-Coupe finishes a strong 6th place while battling braking problems at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.J For the Barber race Andrew Davis joined Billy Johnson in the #18 BMW Z4 M-Coupe. After qualifying in a strong 3rd place, Andrew managed to keep the car in the top ten battling a greasy track and intense humidity. Half way through the race, Davis turned the reigns over to Johnson who moved up the field into fifth place. After an exciting 45 minute battle with the 09 Automatic Racing BMW of Jeff Segal, Johnson lost his rear brakes and the 09 was able to capitalize to make the pass for 5th.
"The Z4 M-Coupe has come a long way over the past three races" said Johnson "MTG has done a fantastic job with the car and we are continuing to figure out the intricacies of the car. We had a strong handling car, but the ground we made in the corners was lost under braking. Once the rear pads wore down to the backing plates, the handling just couldn't make up for it."
The 6th place result is the #18 Z4 M-Coupe's second top ten this season and moves the car into 6th in the team championship. This is very impressive for a car that has only 4 races under its belt, especially considering that the competition have had years of development by multiple teams . The lone M-Coupe is soldering on in impressive fashion with hopes to be back on the podium again to match or better its 3rd place finish at Mosport in the hands of Billy Johnson and Tom Milner.
