Automatic Racing Attends Florida Governor's Inauguration
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Automatic Racing hit the highways of Florida last week to attend the inauguration of Florida's new governor in Tallahassee before traveling to Daytona International Raceway for Test Days.
The No. 99 Fresh from Florida BMW M3 was part of a display in Tallahassee celebrating the inauguration of Governor Charlie Crist on Tuesday, January 2. Driver Tom Long was on hand to sign autographs and greet the people who were attending the parade and other activities planned throughout the state capital as part of the inauguration.
"The Fresh from Florida car and hauler were right next to the Governor's mansion," explained Long. "There were a lot of families and people from all over Florida who came out to celebrate, and we had a fun time letting kids sit in the car and signing autographs."
Even Commissioner of Agriculture Charles Bronson stopped by to see the bright green KONI Challenge racer, which carries images of fruits and vegetables available from Florida growers.
"Commissioner Bronson got his first look at the car and chatted with us for a while. We're hoping he can make it to our first race, which will be at Daytona. We'd really like him to be a part of the team for the weekend," said Long.
With the first race of the season just three weeks away at Daytona, Automatic Racing went from the state capital to the World Center of Racing for Grand-Am's Test Days. The three-day test gave all eight Automatic Racing drivers plenty of track time and the team's four BMW M3s are in their final stages of preparation before the race.
The season-opening KONI Challenge Series race at Daytona will be a three-hour event on Friday, January 26.
