Opelika, AL -May 19, 2008 - APR Motorsport is proud to announce the signing of drivers James Hunt and Mike Sweeney for select races for the 2008 season.
Hunt and Sweeney will be campaigning the APR Motorsport #191 VW GTi,, starting this coming race weekend at Grand Am GT Classic at Lime Rock Park, CT. The 2.5 hour endurance race at the challenging and historic Lime Rock Park circuit starts at 3pm EDT on this Saturday, May 24. All three APR Motorsport GTi's compete in the Koni Challenge ST series.
Hunt, who has been racing in various classes since 2004 and finished second overall in the popular Speed TV television program "Setup", was tested by APR Motorsport back in March of this year with great success.
Hunt said of his signing, "I am extremely excited to drive for a top notch, professional team like APR Motorsport. Their experience and professionalism represent an image I try to embody as a driver. The VW GTI is an incredibly fun to drive chassis with a lot of potential! I'm looking forward to a good showing at Lime Rock!"
Mike Sweeney comes to APR Motorsport with years of racing experience in vintage, historic, stock and sprint cars. When not racing, Mike works as a professional driving instructor at Cory Kruseman Sprint Car School. Mike says he's very excited to race in the ever competitive Koni Challenge series, adding ""This is a great opportunity for me, as teams that display the kind of professionalism and commitment that APR Motorsport is defined by, are few and far between. I am so fortunate to be able to pair this kind of equipment and crew with a great co-driver like James (Hunt). Adding in the great racing we see every outing in the Grand Am Koni Challenge just makes me all the more anxious to go racing at Lime Rock!"
