Sascha Maassen started the 2007 race season with a successful three-day test at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla., preparing for the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona. Maassen, of Raeren, Belgium, co-drove the No. 39 Cheever Racing Porsche-powered Crawford Daytona Prototype with Eddie Cheever Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind., Emmanuel Collard of Champs-sur-Marne, France, and Christian Fittipaldi of Key Biscayne, Fla.

Maassen set the team's fastest lap time of the test, during the last of eight track sessions. His lap of one minute 44.689 seconds (122.42 mph) on the 3.56-mile infield road course was good for 14th in the 64-car field.

"In the three days, we constantly improved our car. It was good -- the last session, we did our quickest lap time. We're not the quickest yet, but it's not important at the moment; we hope to be the quickest at the end of the race," Maassen said.

"The team is very good to work with. With my limited experience with this car, I was happy that they took my input, and I think we improved the car a little bit. I'm very happy with the team and with my teammates, Emmanuel Collard, Christian Fittipaldi and Eddie Cheever. Everything looks good. I think there are 10 to 15 cars that can win this race and we can say now we belong to that group."

The Rolex 24 At Daytona is scheduled for Jan. 27 and 28.
