Round 7 Of The Grand American Road Racing Series Comes To A Close From Beautiful Elkhart Lake, Wi

(July 8, 2001) The Grand American Road Racing series headed to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI, July 5-8. Activities commenced Friday with practice sessions and qualifying following on Saturday.

Saturday's qualifying run around the four-mile, 14-turn permanent road course began at 1:10 pm. Piloting the #6 Miracle Motorsports/Serta Mattress entry was Ross Bentley (Vancouver, BC). The car had a slight fuel pressure problem, and was running rather sluggish. Despite the pressure issue, Ross managed to pull a time of 2:08.6 out of the car, an average lap speed of 111.968, which was good enough to place the car in the 13th spot on the grid.

Joining Bentley was the driving team of Brent Sherman (Barrington, IL) and team owner, John Macaluso (Winter Haven, FL). Sherman was second in the driver line up, posting striking times in the low 2:05's. A clogged fuel filter was the cause for a lengthy pit stop, placing the car back in the 33rd spot. Once replaced, the car went back out on the track with John Macaluso behind the wheel. While the expertise and skill of the drivers had gotten the car back up to the 28th place, it was just too much to chance by continuing to run the Miracle Motorsports/Serta Mattress entry. Rather than risking a blown motor, Michael Guey, Team Manager, made the decision to retire the #6 entry.

The #27 Lista Doran Judd Ferrari took home a first place finish. For further race results, please visit the Grand-Am website, as well as the Miracle Motorsports website at www.miraclemotorsports.com. This weekend's Road America 500 will be televised Sunday, July 22 at noon.
