It did not take long for the rain that began falling from the leaden Daytona Beach skies shortly before the two-hour mark to turn the 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway infield road course into a slippery mess.

But while it caused cars to fly off the track and wheels to fly off the cars at alarming rates, the new Rileys from SunTrust Racing (with Pontiac power) and Chip Ganassi Racing (Lexus) seemed unaffected, running first and second after four hours in the Rolex 24.

Despite losing a wheel on the backstretch, the No. 2 Howard-Boss Motorsports Crawford Chevrolet sat in third, followed by the Bell Motorsports Doran Pontiac and the No. 59 Brumos Racing Fabcar Porsche, which spun several times near the end of the fourth hour.

In the GT class, the No. 44 Orbit Racing Porsche GT3 RS, running ninth overall, had a one-lap lead over the No. 22 Team PTG BMW M3 and a two-lap lead over the No. 33 Risi Competizione Maserati in the GT class.

In SGS, Porsches from Doncaster Racing ran first and third, while the No. 38 TPC Racing Porsche sat in second.
