DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (November 9, 2000) - Already the most prestigious sports car race in America, the 39th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona will also be the richest event in its history. Over a half a million dollars is posted in purse and prize money so far. With additional bonuses expected from racer performance awards through Grand-Am's contingency award program, the final total will be even greater.

The record prize money currently totals $568,750 and is available as purse and bonuses. Grand-Am's unique Team Owner Program, established last season to reward and recognize the teams that are the foundation of the sport, offers bonuses this year based on race performance and team standings from last year's points.

Rolex and Daytona Speedway will be awarding the top finishing teams in each class with a specially engraved Rolex Oyster Chronometer watch. Union 76, the official race fuel of Grand-Am, has posted hefty prize money as well.

"Starting Grand-Am's second season at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, we are pleased to offer record awards to get this new year started on the right foot," commented Grand-Am President Roger Edmondson. "This is just the first of many 'bigger and better' things we plan to introduce this year for race teams, drivers and fans."
