Amesbury, MA. – July 29th, 2013 -- It was a memorable day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana as they captured their first ever podium at the legendary Brickyard. The duo crossed the bricks in third place after a late race wreck forced the two-and-one-half-hour Brickyard Sports Car Challenge to end under caution. The duo managed two flawless stints to bring the No. 96 GS class M3 into the top three after qualifying tenth on the 2.6 mile 13-turn road course.
Paul Dalla Lana started the race in the No. 96 GS class M3 completing 38 laps to hand the car over to Bill Auberlen. Auberlen charged to the front after passing the fifth place John Edwards (No. 9 Camaro) on the inside of Turn-1. Auberlen quickly moved up to third place with 25 minutes remaining, only to be held in position by two full course cautions to end the race under yellow.
"The Turner Motorsport M3 was strong here at Indy," Said Bill Auberlen. "We had great straight line speed allowing us to make some crucial passes going into Turn 1 to get our BMW up to third. It's too bad the race ended under caution, it could have been exciting there at the end. This race marks my 500th professional race of my career and it was nice to get on the podium at such an iconic track."
In Friday afternoon's Rolex Series Brickyard Grand Prix the No. 93 and No. 94 GT class M3s started eleventh and sixteenth. Paul Dalla Lana started in the No. 94, handing it over to Billy Johnson after the first pit stop. Johnson's stint was cut short due to incidental contact with the No. 24 Audi R8 sending the No. 94 M3 behind the wall for repairs.
The No. 93 was driven by Milton Grant and his two sons Kevin and Carey Grant. Carey started the race with a strong stint handing it over to Milton about one hour into the race. A contact with a DP car forced Milton into the pits for repairs, ultimately sending the car to the garages.
The No. 94 M3 remains fifth in the Rolex GT Championship point's standings with four races remaining in the 2013 season.
Round 9 of the Rolex Series will be held on Saturday August 10th from Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. Watch it LIVE on SPEED TV on August 10th at 5:00pm ET.
