Picchio Signs Ciompi as an Official Driver
Picchio has just finalized an agreement with Alex Ciompi, the Tuscan driver who, despite his youth, has already collected considerable success in many series: the last being the Formula 3000 series in 2004 where he earned the title best novice driver on the track.
Within the Picchio project for young drivers, Alex starts a collaboration with Picchio as an official tester, so he will be working on development of all products, with particular regard to the Daytona Prototype, the car built for the American Grand-Am Series. Within the newly signed agreement, Picchio will send Ciompi to the United States for the Grand Prix of Miami, Fla., that will be held at the Homestead Miami Speedway from March 23rd to 25th.
In that race, Ciompi will be driving a Picchio Dinan BMW engined Daytona Prototype, managed by the team ADi Motorsport. He will be sharing the driving duties with Tim Hubman, a proven and experienced driver in ALMS prototypes and many other series. The purpose of the initiative is getting the best elements for evaluating the opportunity for Picchio to officially take part to this series, with a car directly managed by the factory and not by private teams.
"We are very happy with this new agreement", says Mr. Di Pietrantonio, GM of Picchio, "first, because Alex is a precise and fast driver, and we noted this immediately during the tests. Second, because with this mission in the US we will be able to better estimate the terms of a possible direct participation to the prestigious Grand-Am series. Alex Ciompi will actually be, let's say, a 'forerunner' to other young talented drivers as Alessandro Vitacolonna, Francesco Sini and Marika Diana, who also have joined our project called 'Professional Driver? Yes thanks!' that we launched last year."
