Phoenix, AZ -- For the last two years Planet Earth Motorsports has celebrated Earth Day with a victory at Phoenix International Raceway. This season the Phoenix race was moved a couple of weeks after Earth Day, but that didn't stop Planet Earth Motorsports from getting a late Earth Day present with a third consecutive win at Phoenix International Raceway.
In 2001 Planet Earth won at Phoenix in the Sports Touring II class with an Acura Integra. Last season they won in the Grand Sports I class with a Chevrolet Corvette. This season the win came in the Grand Sports II class in the #41 SpeedSource Porsche 911.
"This is an excellent way to celebrate Earth Day and a real boost to our environmental partners Orison Marketing and GOJO," commented Wayne Nonnamaker. "All the hard work was taken care of by the time I got in the car. Joe had a great drive from the back of the pack and slowly one by one he picked off cars until he was in the lead when we pitted. When the crew got done re-fueling the car and sending me back out, I only had to pass one car to take the lead. From there, I did all I could to keep the hard charging #30 Mustang behind me."
"The entire race went all green and we only won by 25 seconds," added Joe Nonnamaker, father of Will and Wayne. "That is less than two tenths of a second a lap difference and a testament to how tight the competition package is in the Grand Am Cup."
The #41 SpeedSource Porsche has led all three events so far this season and with two wins and a fifth place the drivers hold a three point advantage over their nearest rival in the Driver's Championship.
The race at Phoenix International Raceway will be televised by Speed TV on May 10th at 1:00 PM.
The next event for the Planet Earth Motorsports campaign will be on May 17th at the brand new Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.
