Bell Motorsports/Feeds the Need Racing Wants Another Podium Finish at Mont-Tremblant With Kodak EasyShare DORAN JE4 Pontiac No. 54
FORT WORTH, May 13 - Bolstered by the team's podium finish at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on May 1, Terry Borcheller, Ralf Kelleners, Forest Barber and the rest of the Bell Motorsports/Feeds the Need Racing team have high hopes for the next Rolex series race, a six-hour enduro at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec on Saturday, May 21.
Barber, of Fort Worth, is scheduled to join Borcheller, of Gainesville, Ga., and Ralf Kelleners of Dusseldorf, Germany behind the wheel of the Kodak EasyShare DORAN JE4 Pontiac No. 54 at Mont-Tremblant.
Last year Borcheller and Andy Pilgrim finished third in the Kodak EasyShare car at Mont-Tremblant. Barber participated in practice, but didn't drive in the actual race. The team might have won if it hadn't had a problem with the nuts that hold the car's wheels on, a problem that has since been remedied.
All sorts of bizarre things like that can happen in six hours of competition, but the Kodak crew hopes to duplicate their podium finishes at both the last race and last year's race at Mont-Tremblant when it makes its 2005 foray into Canada. Improving those third-place finishes by two spots would be even better.
Borcheller and Barber have both driven on Mont-Tremblant's 2.65-mile, 15-turn road course in the past of course, but Kelleners will be making his first start there. This six-hour race and another six-hour event, the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y. on Sunday, June 12, will be good tune-ups for when Borcheller and Kelleners tackle the 24 Hours of Le Mans in another car June 18-19.
(Incidentally, the Kodak EasyShare car is scheduled to be on display in downtown Canandaigua, N.Y. on Tuesday, June 7 from noon until 7 p.m. before testing starts at the Glen on Thursday, June 9.)
But first the team has the six-hour race at Mont-Tremblant in a series that is nothing if not very competitive.
"It's one of our favorite tracks," noted Barber, who has been driving his Star Mazda car in SCCA club racing events as part of his preparation for driving in the Rolex series race at Mont-Tremblant. "Our car has always done well there. I have always felt comfortable there, and I look forward to driving in the race with Terry and Ralf. We're all hoping that we can have another podium finish."
SPEED plans live coverage from Mont-Tremblant from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, May 21.
The weekend begins with practice at noon on Thursday, May 19. Additional test sessions are slated from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. that day.
On Friday, May 20 the Kodak EasyShare car should be on the track from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. before qualifying at 3:15 p.m.
On race day, Saturday, May 21, there is a 15-minute warm-up session at 9:30 a.m. before the race starts at 11 a.m.
