Racers Edge New Jersey Race Preview
Racers Edge Motorsports and Team Owner Jon Mirachi has a long history of working with young talent that go on to be stars of the motorsports world, so when he was able to land the up-and-coming duo of Jordan Taylor and Dion von Moltke, naturally he felt right at home and excited about the possibilities. States Mirachi "We've had our eye on these two young men all year, and I'm pleased it worked out so that we're able to get them behind the wheel of our car." Jon continues with enthusiasm "It's always especially exciting and fun to work with young talented drivers such as Jordan and Dion."
Of the opportunity Dion mentions "I'm not sure I've ever looked forward to a race weekend more than this one! This will be my first Rolex GT race, my first with Racers Edge and their Mazda RX-8 GT car. I'm doing a double header for the first time, handling my normal driving duties for the APR Motorsport team in Koni Challenge in addition to this new opportunity, and all happening on a new circuit, I can't think of anything better than this!"
Both of these drivers have been coming up through the ranks, and doing so in impressive fashion, and the future is looking very bright as they take another leap forward. With strong family ties going back to South Africa, Jordan and Dion are long time friends, former competitors in the Skip Barber ranks, and finally team mates which is something that has all involved equally excited. "Sharing the Racers Edge Mazda RX-8 with my good friend Jordan is something we've been trying to make happen since our Skip Barber days, and would like to thank the Racers Edge team, Wayne Taylor, and P1 Groupe for all making this a reality."
Jordan Taylor, fresh off a win in the IMSA Lites Series in Mosport this past weekend, had similar sentiments about this weekend's race in New Jersey, "I am extremely happy for the opportunity given to me by Jon Mirachi and his team to race this weekend in New Jersey. I would also like to make a special thanks to Farley's & Sathers Candy Company who will be our primary sponsor this weekend with their Brach's brand. Dion and I raced against each other last year in the Skip Barber Eastern Series, so I think we will work well together. It is a new track that we are going to, but there will be a lot of track time to get up to speed. I am excited to be back in a Mazda, racing in Grand-Am, and hope we can come out of the weekend with a strong performance."
The combination of these two young drivers, the race proven Mazda RX-8 race car, and the many championships under the belt of the Racers Edge team, should prove well. The drivers will have an equal footing to their competition in this event, which is a rarity when joining a new team so late in the season, as this will be the first major race at the new circuit, with the majority of the series drivers never taken laps there. The team is confident their new additions will be up to speed with the GT leaders by the end of the Thursday test, and eyeing a very strong result to their weekend.
