TMS Pilots Bring Experience - and Championship Lead
Grand Am Cup and SPEED Touring Car Races This Weekend
Mid Ohio Sportscar Course, OH - 08/06/2004 - Turner Motorsport pilots resume the Grand Am Cup schedule this weekend at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. Will Turner, Don Salama, Tim Pappas, and Mike Fitzgerald team up in a two-car strike on the ST-class. The #95 Turner Motorsport BMW 330i has carried Turner and Salama to the lead in the overall ST-class Championship. They will be defending that lead this weekend.
Will Turner, #95 Turner Motorsport BMW 330i:
"I think we've had the largest string of top-fives of anyone this season. Our consistency has been our advantage. The #95 BMW 330i has been reliable and strong all year. The TMS crew has built two very strong cars and we've put some very fast drivers behind the wheels of both cars. Preserving our lead in the Championship is our mission here this weekend."
Don Salama, #95 Turner Motorsport BMW 330i:
"The team has a lot of good data on the E46 at Mid Ohio. Despite Grand Am officials trying to slow us down with 75lbs of extra weight we should be front runners here; Will, Mike Fitzgerald, and myself have all won races at Mid Ohio and Tim Pappas has proved his speed in every race this season."
Turner and Salama lead the Grand Am Cup ST class in the BMW 330i and Bill Auberlen leads the SPEED Touring Car Championship in his Turner Motorsport-built BMW 325i. This is the first time that the same team has led both championships at the same time. The TMS operation will be very busy this weekend with the Grand Am race at Mid Ohio and the Touring Car race at Mosport.
Practice sessions for the Grand Am Cup series begin on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Qualifying for the race takes place on Saturday afternoon at 3:45pm. Then round six of the championship kicks off at 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon. It will be a 250-mile/3-hour event that will air on The SPEED Channel on Sunday, August 15, 2004. Each session can be watched LIVE via Grand Am's Live Timing and Scoring at www.grandamerican.com.
