Cosmo Takes 7th in Qualifying for Spirit of Daytona Racing

(Mansfield, OH) 19 June 09 -- Guy Cosmo got nearly everything that he could possibly wrestle out of the Spirit of Daytona Racing No. 09 Porsche V8-powered Coyote in qualifying for Saturday's EMCO Gears Classic presented by Key Bank, but caught traffic on his last lap flyer and wasn't able to improve on his 7th position after setting a fast lap time of 1:19.495-seconds at Mid-Ohio.

Cosmo will start the 2 hour and 45-minute event for round 6 of the 2009 Rolex Sports Car Series season before turning the driving duties over to co-driver Scott Russell. The qualifying result is the second-best qualifying outing of the 2009 Rolex Sports Car Series season for the duo as the team looks to once again visit victory lane at Mid-Ohio, having scored a victory in AGT competition in 2000.

The lap was the quickest of the weekend so far for the AMA-liveried Coyote as Cosmo was well into the top-five for most of the 15-minute session.

"We made a lot of improvement with the car and I think we made the right choices with the set-up today," said Cosmo. "It took a little bit of time to get the tires up to temperature, but once they did the car was much better. I was in the top five for most of the session, and left a gap for another run at the end but just caught traffic on the very last lap. So that was really frustrating! But it was still a pretty good day for us and now we can look ahead to moving up in the race. Scott's been doing well in the car and who knows what is going to happen with the weather, so everyone is ready to go."

The EMCO Gears Classic presented by KEY Bank will be carried LIVE on SPEED starting at 5:00 PM EST as the team seeks the checkered flag on Saturday night, while working toward that first green flag for the No. 90 on Monday.
