Dalziel returns to Mid-Ohio for EMCO Gears Classic
Orlando, Florida (August 25, 2005) -- Ryan Dalziel returns to the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series this weekend as he prepares to compete in the 'EMCO Gears Classic' at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, 26th-27th August. Competing once again with Florida-based SAMAX Racing, Dalziel will pilot the #71 Porsche GT3 Cup entry in the GT division alongside American racer Mark Greenberg.
Dalziel is no stranger to the 2.258-mile Lexington, Ohio road course having finished on the podium there in 2003 while challenging for the Toyota Atlantic Championship. In addition, the 23-year-old already has a Mid-Ohio sports car start to his name from earlier this season, experience which should prove useful heading into this Saturday's 250-mile race, Round 10 of the 2005 Rolex Sports Car Series.
This weekend marks the fourth time Dalziel has teamed with SAMAX Racing, the notable highlight coming in the form of a podium finish in the 'Brumos Porsche 250' at Daytona International Raceway at the end of June. On that occasion Ryan was partnered behind the wheel by his older brother John, the Scottish duo powering to third in class at the end of the night.
Looking ahead to a busy couple of days Ryan commented:
"I always enjoy racing at Mid-Ohio so I'm grateful to Peter Baron for calling me up to compete with Mark Greenberg in the #71 SAMAX Racing Porsche. I know the track pretty well and unlike the other circuits we've been to together I actually have prior sports car experience at this one! We've always been competitive together and I see no reason why we can't be challenging right from the front as soon as the action starts this weekend."
Immediately following Saturday's 'EMCO Gears Classic' Dalziel hops on a plane to Montreal, Canada to attend Sunday's Champ Car World Series race in his role as a team consultant for PKV Racing. With the Canadian event marking the last round of the Toyota Atlantic Championship, the traditional end-of-year banquet is being held in the city on Sunday night and Dalziel, twice a runner-up in the series, will be on hand to present an award.
Saturday's 'EMCO Gears Classic' starts at 5:30pm with the SPEED broadcasting the action on Sunday at 12pm EST.
