Frisselles qualify fifth at Mid-Ohio
(Mansfield, OH) 23 June 2006-- Brian Frisselle carded a fast lap time of 1:21.227-seconds around the 2.238-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to grab fifth on the EMCO Gears Classic presented by Key Bank grid with the Porsche-powered Synergy Racing GlycoMax Doran. Brian's best qualifying effort of the season is a front-row start in Mexico City.
The Frisselles arrived at Mid-Ohio after scoring their best finish of the season to date with a ninth place finish at Watkins Glen, and have high hopes for the Mid-Ohio weekend, as the track was the site of their best finish of2005 with a run to seventh last August.
The EMCO race weekend has seen track activity disrupted by some heavy rain showers and high winds, which also threatened to cancel the afternoon qualifying session. Had that been the case, the field would have been set by championship standings, so the chance to earn their spot on the grid was welcomed by the entire Synergy Racing team.
"Thank god we even got to qualify," said Brian. "This puts us in a much better position because we are going to be right in the thick of things up front and racing around some smart guys so hopefully we will be able to stay out of trouble at the start. The car was pretty good and I think I got almost everything out of it in qualifying. We have some changes we'll want to make for the race because the weather is going to be different and so will the track, but this was a good qualifying for us."
"Brian did a really good job and I think we are going to be in pretty good shape tomorrow," said Burt. "The track has been green all weekend with all the rain, but I think the Synergy guys found a bit of a sweet spot with the car and Brian made the most of it. Starting this close to the front is going to hopefully pay some big dividends later in the race."
The EMCO Gears Classic will take the green flag at 5:30 PM Saturday evening, with a two and three-quarter hour sprint into the sunset. SPEED will carry the race on a tape-delay basis starting at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 25th.
