Beyer Racing Mid Ohio Qualifying Report
Lexington, Ohio - June 19th, 2009 - The Beyer Racing squad had a frustrating qualifying session today at the EMCO Gears Classic presented by KeyBank, round 6 of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16.
The day began under wet conditions and all four of the Beyer Racing drivers had the opportunity to experience what it is like to drive their Lennox cars around the 2.258-mile Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in the rain.
Mike Forest took the wheel of the No. 13 Lennox Pontiac Riley during qualifying for the first time in his career and was optimistic after both him and his teammate, Ricky Taylor, had been able to improve the car during practice. The Canadian turned 10 laps during qualifying but was not able to improve from his practice times, he will start tomorrow's race in the 13th position after turning a lap of 1m21.449s (99.802mph).
The No. 5 Lennox Comptech/Honda Riley was in the hands of Jared Beyer today for qualifying. Beyer and teammate Jordan Taylor, the two youngest drivers in the field, showed promise today during the wet practice session by quickly proving that they could comfortably run with the leaders under these conditions. Qualifying however was not as successful and the duo will have to settle for the 16th starting position after turning a lap of 1m24.296s (96.672mph).

"Not bad but the first time qualifying, you just have to accept that you are up against a pretty tough crowd. I can't say I'm excited about the result, I thought I was easily going to be able to improve from my time this morning but we ended up just doing the same lap times.
So I'm a little bit frustrated, we made improvements every step of the way today and that's what was so surprising about this qualifying session because the car felt better but we just weren't able to maximize on it. I had a lock up early on and slightly flat spotted the tires so that just kept getting worse throughout the run. I think the car is continually improving, we still don't know if it's going to be wet or dry but I think it's going to be a fun race."

"This is the first time that I qualify so it was definitely a little nerve racking. Right out of the box the car felt good but the speed wasn't there for some reason, we need to go back and figure out where we are loosing the time.
Driving in the rain this morning was a lot of fun, it was extremely slippery. This was my first time driving the Lennox Comptech/Honda car on this track so I was slowly building up the speed, but after only a few laps I got very comfortable with the car and the track conditions. I also got to do some laps in the rain on Wednesday on the Mid Ohio Racing School cars, so I've gotten good experience and I am ready in case it rains tomorrow."
