Mike Shank selected as "40 Under 40"
Top award for young professionals in Columbus market comes just in time...
(Columbus, OH) 15 September 06--Michael Shank Racing owner Mike Shank has been selected by Columbus Business First newspaper as a "Top 40 Under 40" winner, which recognizes the forty top professionals under the age of 40 in the Columbus area market. Shank was selected by Columbus Business First from hundreds of proposals.
The award is the second significant accomplishment for the Columbus native this month, as his eponymous team won the season-ending Rolex Sports Car Series race in Utah on Labor Day weekend, helping to secure the manufacturers title for team partner Lexus.
Shank and thirty-nine other young professionals will be recognized in a ceremony on Thursday, September 21st, just one day before his fortieth birthday.
"It is quite an honor to get this kind of recognition and I have to admit that I was a bit surprised," said Shank. "I am excited about this mostly because it just reflects well on this company and the people who really put this organization in the position that it's in moving forward. I have to thank my wife Marybeth for everything she's done helping me run this team-I'd be nowhere without her. Winning a race was a fantastic close to the season, and this is just icing on the cake for the team!"
After taking several wins in the open-wheel Atlantics category, the Utah triumph marked the first in Rolex competition for Michael Shank Racing, which has thrived since joining the series in 2004. After starting with a small group of crew members supporting a one-car entry in 2004, the team has grown to have over twenty people each weekend working to field a full time two-car entry in 2006.
After starting with a strong second place in the biggest race of the season, the Rolex 24 At Daytona, the team impressed through the summer with a streak of top-ten finishes for both entries that powered the team up through the championship standings.
Michael Shank Racing is currently anticipating moving into a new larger shop this fall, and returning to the Rolex Sports Car Series for the 2007 looking for even better results.
The nomination was prepared by Michael Shank Racing's agency of record, Sunday Group Management.
