Pew Takes Best-Ever Qualifying spot at Lime Rock Park
Lakeville, Conn. (30 May 2011)-- Michael Shank Racing driver John Pew posted a career-best qualifying result on Memorial Day Monday as he pushed the No. 60 Crown Royal XR Ford-Riley to sixth on the Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve grid at Lime Rock Park. Pew will open the race behind the controls before co-driver Ozz Negri jumps in to take the car to the finish as the race marks round five of the 2011 season.
“I was pushing really hard, especially in the slower corners and I think it paid off for us today,” said Pew. “I only had a few laps before it was time to go qualifying, so I’m pretty pleased to be up on the third row and right up there with some very strong cars. We’ve got a few final adjustments to make on the car but I think we are ready to go. I’ve had a lot of fun racing at Lime Rock Park through the years and I’m hoping today is another good day for us with the Crown Royal Ford-Riley.
“Hat’s off to John to basically just jump in and post that time--it’s incredible how quickly he got up to speed right off the bat,” said Shank, who despite the hectic schedule took time to provide garage tours for Lime Rock Park VIP guests between sessions. “This is a lightning-fast day, but so far, so good. We’ve got a few things were going to think about with the car, but things have gone exactly to plan and hopefully that will be the case once we start racing as well.”
