TRG Porsche of Johnson and Nearn to Start 12th in GT in Mexico City
Mexico City, Mexico -- Steve Johnson behind the wheel of his number 66/TRG/Comfort Systems/Porsche 997 will start round two of the Grand American Rolex Series presented by Crown Royal Reserve from the sixth row tomorrow.
The team spent all of yesterday's practice as well as this morning tuning the suspension of the number 66 car. After major changes last night, the team was able to get the car substantially better for qualifying. Under near perfect weather conditions of 70-degrees, Johnson posted a time of 1:34.273.
"The car was a lot better than we had it yesterday," said Johnson. "The team really did a great job to make the damper and spring adjustments for practice this morning. My qualifying time was pretty good, but I think with some more time today to think about it and then the warm-up tomorrow we will be even better for the race."
Johnson's co-driver Robert Nearn is also happy with the team's progress. "We made a really big change over night on the suspension. We were a 100% better this morning and we still have some work to do for the warm-up tomorrow. The Porsche is fast down the main straight, but we are still losing a little too much time through the corners in the back. If we can take another step forward with the suspension we should have a top five car for the race."
"The team has worked hard on the 997," said Kevin Buckler, TRG owner. "Mike Johnson and the crew have brought us back into the ball park, now we just have those last tenths of a second to dial out and we will be right there with the front runners. Steve and Robert had their best finish of the season here last year and are coming off a good run at Daytona, so we are moving in the right direction."
