DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 15, 2003) -- JMB Racing USA Team Ferrari announced today that Max Papis will drive for the team at the 41st Rolex 24 At Daytona, Feb. 1-2. Papis, who has raced competitively at Daytona since 1998, has finished on the class podium at the Rolex 24 every year except for 2001 when engine failure cut short his team's efforts. The Italian driver won his class in 2000 and captured the overall victory with Doran Lista Racing last year at the classic twice-around-the-clock event.
The Italian driver will pilot JMB's #20 Ferrari 360GT with Brazilian Augusto Farfus and Andrea Garbagnati, of Monaco. The fourth driver of the #20 machine has yet to be announced. The team will also campaign the #22 Ferrari in the GT class, with Americans Ron Atapattu and Dr. Steve Earle joining Frenchman Phillip Shearer and Italian Ludovico Manfredi.
'Mad Max,' as his fans know him, is a front-runner not only in sports car racing, but also in CART and IRL. He has scored CART victories at Portland, Monterey and Miami.
2003 will be the inaugural season for JMB Racing USA Team Ferrari, the U.S. arm of JMB Racing. The team comes to the United States with extensive sports car racing experience and several victories from series throughout Europe.
