Marsal has another busy weekend of race action in at Barber Motorsports Park
Official practice will take place on Thursday. Both series will qualify Friday morning ahead of Saturday’s race events.
Birmingham, Ala. – Michael Marsal has another busy few days of race action on tap this weekend as he once again competes in both GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC) and Rolex Sports Car Series competition.
GRAND-AM stages Round 3 for both series championships at Barber Motorsports Park and Marsal will team with Tonis Kasemets in the No. 71 Multimatic Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage in CTSCC as well as share driving duties with Gunter Schaldach in the No. 93 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 GT in Rolex Series action.
“You hate it when you know where the medical facilities are at a track because you’ve already been there!” said Marsal.
This year’s Barber event will mark a set of firsts for the 23-year-old driver, who scored a podium in his Barber debut in 2010, as he makes his first start at the track in an Aston Martin as well as his first Rolex Series start at the challenging 2.3-mile, 17-turn Alabama road course.
“Going back and forth between the two cars shouldn’t be too tough,” said Marsal of the double-duty weekend. “The more I do it, the easier it is. It was a good weekend in Texas with both cars, and hopefully we can keep that momentum going.”
Marsal currently sits third in the CTSCC championship standings after earning two solid results in the two opening rounds. Scoring an 11th place finish at Daytona International Speedway, he and Kasemets followed that up with a fifth place result at Circuit of the Americas (COTA).
The COTA event also saw Marsal score his best Rolex Series finish of eighth and he hopes to carry this positive momentum into Round 3 as he returns to the popular Barber facility.
“This is going to be a really busy month of racing for me and having these double-race days like we will have on Saturday is a great challenge,” said Marsal. “I’ve been stepping up my training with two-a-days to be ready for it and hopefully that pays off.”
The busy weekend of on-track action begins on Wednesday with a promoter test day. Official practice will take place on Thursday. Both series will qualify Friday morning ahead of Saturday’s race events.
The Rolex Series 2-hour Porsche 250 event will begin at 1:45 PM (ET)) and the 2.5-hour CTSCC race will start shortly after at 5:00 PM (ET).
