TRG Returns to Laguna Seca Looking to Extend Win Streak
Petaluma, California - TRG is on a roll, and will be ready with the Pontiac GTO.R machines at the next stop on the 2006 Rolex Sports Car Series in Monterey, CA at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. A combination of precise driving skill and aggressive team strategy has placed the TRG Pontiac GTO.R teams on the podium regularly at this years GT competitions.
The No. 64 TRG/iRise Pontiac of Kelly Collins and Paul Edwards finished 1st in Mexico City, while Marc Bunting, Andy Lally and RJ Valentine took 3rd in the No. 65 TRG/F1 Air/Alpine Bagel machine. Collins and Edwards again took 1st place at the Grand Prix of Miami, then at Virginia International Raceway, the TRG No. 65 of Bunting, Lally and Valentine won 1st place, with the No. 64 car just behind in second.
Team owner Kevin Buckler commented about the recent string of successes, "Heading into Laguna, being at the front of the Drivers, Team and Manufacturer's Champonships is what it's all about. I am proud of every single member of this team accross the board. We are going to Laguna looking for another win with the Pontiac GTO.R's and our friends and partners at iRise and F-1 Air."
"Three wins in a row is certainly a great accomplishment by the team," commented Lally, who, along with Bunting, took over the points lead after the Virginia race. "We certainly can't rest on those victories though, as the points race is very tight and we have many more races to go. I think a good bit of our success can be attributed to how efficiently the team is working together to get the most out of the practice sessions, and then also making good calls when we need them on pit road."
Laguna Seca is the first "home track" of TRG team owner Kevin Buckler. He drove here last year in a one-off race, was the fastest qualifying Porsche, and started the race on the outside front row just barely behind then BMW team driver Kelly Collins. "Kelly and I, and our crew chief on the 65, Lars, all know this track really well. It's a tricky little track to setup for, so hopefully we can huddle on this one and get it figured out quick. Unfortunately, The Pontiacs have not raced or tested here, so we really have our work cut out for us." commented Buckler.
