ANOTHER TOP FIVE FOR SIGALSPORT BMW TEAM!
Los Angeles, California (May 9, 2006) -- The No. 05 Alhadeff Motorsports / Motul / GRW.com/mx / enVista / OMP / GlycoMax / Piloti Driving Shoes Sigalsport BMW M3 co-driven by Matt Alhadeff and Bill Auberlen finished 5th in the fifth round of the 2006 Grand American Rolex Series race at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway, California.
Thanks to this performance the Sigalsport BMW No. 05 of Alhadeff and Auberlen is able to maintain its 6th place in the 2006 Rolex Series team point standings.
Gene Sigal and Peter MacLeod co-driving the No. 04 Sigalsport / Java One Coffee / Motul / GRW.com.mx / enVista / OMP / Piloti Driving Shoes / GlycoMax BMW M3 finished 12th. Sigal and MacLeod are now ranked 13th in the 2006 Rolex Series team point standings.
Matt Alhadeff was celebrating his first racing anniversary last weekend at Laguna Seca. Started just a year ago, Matt's racing background already includes two podium finishes including a second place finish at the 2006 24 hours of Dubai, two top-five and several top-tens in the GT class of the Grand American Rolex Series. Since May 2005 Matt has made a lot of progress and is now considered one of the GT driver contenders to win races. After five races, Alhadeff, like his co-driver Bill Auberlen, is ranked 7th in the Rolex Series GT driver point standings, only 3 points behind the 5th ranked driver.
The California racing weekend did not start off too well for the Sigalsport BMW team drivers. Bill Auberlen was on his way to finish second in the qualifying race when his engine blew just three laps before the end of the race, forcing car 05 to finish 17th. Gene Sigal and Peter MacLeod had a tough qualifying race too. Unable to find the perfect setup, car 04 was not able to perform at its peak and Gene Sigal finished 12th in the qualifying race.
On race day, Matt Alhadeff was very motivated to show the true potential of his 05 machine in the main event. After just 17 laps, Matt took the Sigalsport BMW M3 from 17th place to 6th. Unfortunately during the first yellow, the pace car entered the track just right in front of Matt and forced the 05 car to lose a lap making it almost impossible for the Sigalsport duo to score a well deserved podium finish. Matt pitted on lap 22 and gave the wheel to Bill Auberlen who continued to drive a magnificent race and finished 5th, scoring the second best result of the team this season.
Peter MacLeod started the race in 12th position and was able to show his driving talent going from 12th to 9th place. Peter gave the car to Gene Sigal on lap 37 and was ready to score a top-ten finish when he got hit by a GT car on lap 52 forcing him to lose 3 positions. Despite his efforts to come back, Gene finished 12th in the race.
The next round of the 2006 Rolex Series is scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at Phoenix International Raceway, Arizona.
