Guy Cosmo Heads West With Playboy Racing
DETROIT: Prepped for the West Coast swing of the Grand Am Rolex Series, Guy Cosmo will again team up with Michael McDowell in the Playboy Racing No. 19 Playboy/Uniden/Palms Ford Crawford for the U.S. Sports Car Invitational race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, May 5 - 7 in Monterey, California.
Just last week, Cosmo started the No. 19 Playboy/Uniden/Palms Ford Crawford from the pole for the Grand American Series VIR 400 at Virginia International Raceway. He and Michael McDowell--who won Saturday's inaugural Daytona Prototype qualifying race at VIR-- earned a fourth place in Sunday's race.
"I'm really looking forward to this race at Laguna Seca," expressed an enthusiastic Guy Cosmo. "I was thrilled to have such a successful debut with Playboy Racing at Virginia, and now that I've got one race under my belt the cockpit of our Playboy/Uniden/Palms car will feel like home this week."
Cosmo, who is sitting in for the injured Memo Gidley, did an impressive thirty lap stint in last week's VIR 400 before relinquishing his seat to Michael McDowell. McDowell went on to finish fourth in the race giving the team their second top-five finish of the weekend. The driver duo appears to be very well matched and have their sights set on the front of the field at Laguna Seca.
"Performing in a new car is always exciting, but VIR was the very first time I sat in the car," Guy added. "This week I'm on another track I love and I'll be slipping back into a machine I know I can run up front in. Michael will be looking for win number two in the qualifying race, and then we have some unfinished business in the main event. I want this win and I'm ready for it."
"The team and chemistry has been fantastic thus far," Cosmo continued. "The crew and all the staff members have been very supportive and enthusiastic about my involvement, and I thank Memo for his support as well. I can't say enough about the effort and dedication Memo, Michael and everyone at Playboy/Uniden Racing put into this program and I'm glad I get to play a role in the team's success as well."
