The Farnbacher Loles Racing team arrived in Monterey CA for the 5th round of the Grand-Am Rolex GT Series. Coming off the team's first win of the season at VIR, there is a lot of excitement and some concern as well.
Team owner Gregory Loles summed up the feelings of the entire operation. "We've been in contention at every race but had been unable to beat the Mazdas. At VIR we were finally able to pull off the win with Bryce Miller and Dirk Werner taking the top step of the podium in the #87 Marquis Jet/IPC/Paul Miller Porsche/Recaro Porsche 997 GT3 Cup. We persevered and feel good about the effort. Leh Keen and Dominik Farnbacher ran strong as well in the their #85 Shoes For Crews/Recaro Porsche before retiring with a damaged radiator."
Coming into this race, the Grand Am officials have made some performance adjustments for some of the manufacturers. Loles continued, "I am a bit surprised at the adjustments given the relative performance of the various marques through the first four races. However I remain confident that given they have everyone's data, Grand Am will ensure a level playing field for all. Obviously after this round at Laguna we will have a much better idea of the impact of these adjustments. Certainly we'll push as hard as we can for the win as we always do. This weekend with Dominik unable to race due to a conflict, Craig Stanton will fill in. We are thrilled to have someone of Craig's ability in the car. He is a true professional and is one of Grand Am's most talented racers."
Also at Laguna, the team will be honoring Sean McQuade, who is a relative of crew chief Bob Sanderson. Sean was one of the first victims in the Virginia Tech shootings. Sean was critically injured and remains hospitalized today. A website has been set up to follow his progress and has information on how to help as his extensive medical bills continue to grow.
