Kimball slides off track while fighting for the lead

Franchitti and Kimball were in a title battle on a restart and neither was giving an inch even though they are both from the Chip Ganassi Racing camp!

It was a dramatic restart between the two Chip Ganassi drivers when Charlie Kimball had the lead in the No. 01 BMW Riley, but when the green flag flew again, Dario Franchitti in the No. 02 team car snookered his fellow IndyCar driver to steal the overall lead.

As the two team cars battle for the lead, Kimball tried to retake the top spot at the Bus Stop and ended up off the racing surface; forcing him to bringing the BMW Riley onto pit road. The rookie at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, returned to the race track in seventh place.

The teammates in both of Ganassi’s cars have been trading off the lead from time-to-time in a dominating performance. Earlier at the start of the race, Scott was not as fast in the No. 02 as Pruett was in the No. 01; yet Dixon and his co-drivers in the No. 02 were able to make up the ground. No doubt the same will now be said for the No. 01.

While the CGR team has the speed, and apparently an excellent set up for their BMW Riley Daytona Prototype but now it really becomes a reliability game, and will the Ganassi team continue to dominate the race? After all, there is still over 11 hours left.
