TRG Porsche of Johnson and Nearn Qualify 11th at Homestead
Homestead, Florida m- Robert Nearn qualified the number 66/TRG/Comfort Systems/Porsche 997 in eleventh position for tomorrow's running of round three of the Grand American Rolex Series presented by Crown Royal Reserve race at Homestead Miami Speedway.
Together with car owner Steve Johnson, Robert Nearn worked on the 997 throughout practice to hone the setup for the 2.3-mile 11-turn modified oval circuit. The TRG crew was able to get the car handling just in time for the 15 minute qualifying session.
"The car was a lot better for qualifying than we had it all of practice," commented Nearn. "I think we have a high 22-second lap in the car now. We are able to be more aggressive with it in the turns and it is responding. In practice we had hard understeer. We changed the rear differential and that helped. We still have some work to do in the morning."
Steve Johnson was frustrated with the car in practice. b^0x001cThe car just didn't seem to want to react the way we needed it to in the turns. The guys did a good job to get it closer for qualifying, now we can put a fine tune on it in the morning warm-up and be ready for the race tomorrow evening."
"Robert and Steve have been providing good feedback to the team and we have been able to react with changes to the car that seem to be working," said Kevin Buckler. "Robert did a good job in qualifying he improved on his fastest practice lap by more than four-tenths to post their best qualifying effort of the season."
Round three of the Grand Am series will start tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. EST and will be televised on the Speed Channel starting at 8:00 p.m.
