SDR takes Flight on Track

Of the eight laps turned for the Spirit of Daytona Racing with Bobby Labonte, only the last lap counted for the team. Co-driver Larry Oberto turned the No. 09 Daytona Prototype's fastest lap right before the checkered flag waved over head. Oberto's time qualified the team to a 21st place starting position for Saturday night's grid.

Oberto was able to get into the right mind set for the qualifying session and turned the fastest lap time for SDR all week long. One of Oberto's strategies for focus was jumping rope. " I used to jump rope or run flights of stairs before taking to the car. It really clears my mind allowing me to relax in the car and push it as hard as it will go," said Oberto. For me racing is work, I have fun when I race, but I do not race for fun. I put a lot of pressure on myself to perform at my highest level. When I get into the car, my first objective is to pass the car in front of me, and to continue that strategy throughout the race." During the qualifying session, Oberto gave a sneak preview of his expected race performance for Saturday night.
