Homestead, FL (2 March 05)-- The Michael Shank Racing team got back to work today in preparation for round two of the Rolex Sports Car Series season, and is feeling confident in advance of Friday's qualifying session for Saturday's race with drivers Mike Borkowski and Paul Mears.

After being completely torn down and rebuilt after the Rolex 24, the Mears Motor Coach-liveried Michael Shank Racing Pontiac-Riley was right on the pace in practice, carding a best lap time of 1:15.053-seconds around the 2.3-mile infield road course at Homestead Miami Speedway. The lap was good for sixth on the overall charts, just .25 of a second behind the quickest time of the day. The competitive nature of the Daytona Prototype class was on display, as the top twenty cars were all within two seconds of the leader.

"We are right there, and we kept getting better as the day went on, improving our times even though we were running on older tires to save some for the race," said team owner Mike Shank. "Looking at the timesheets, it's amazing how close everybody is, so the be right there with the car speed-wise, we are really getting pumped for the race."

"It's a good way to get the weekend started," said Borkowski, who will qualify the car on Friday. "We were fast here from the test in November, and we just used that as a starting point today, and kept improving the car, so hopefully we can keep this up throughout the weekend. As Mike mentioned, its so competitive in this series, it takes a lot of effort to be up front, and the guys have certainly been doing their part to get the car ready."

Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 on Friday, with the second race of the 2005 Rolex Sports Car Series season being broadcast live on Speed Channel beginning at 3:00 pm (EST) on Saturday, March 5th.
