Matt Connolly Motorsports Finalizes Driving Lineup for #21 Homestead Entry
Team owner and series regular driver Matt Connolly and his MCM team are very pleased to announce he has finalized a very strong driving lineup for his #21 BMW M3 entry into the third round of the 2007 Rolex GT Series season taking place at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Joining Matt Connolly in the #21 entry is Indy Pro Series full time driver Sean Guthrie. Coming from a very strong racing lineage, Sean is certainly looking forward to this opportunity to expand his driving resume into the sports car ranks. "I'm really looking forward to racing with the Matt Connolly Motorsports team in the upcoming Grand-Am Series this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway," Sean said. "I know they'll give me a great car, and if we accomplish all of our goals, I'm hoping this could lead to more endurance races this year, and possibly a ride in next January's 'Rolex 24 at Daytona.' I have done a lot of road course racing in the past in karting and the Star Mazda series, have tested on Homestead's road course in the Indy Pro Series car, and have tested a Miata and Mustang, but I have not done any endurance racing. My longest races to date have been 45 minutes. My stint in the M3 will be about 75 minutes, so that will be a challenge I'm looking forward to conquering."
Sean continues, "I've always conserved my equipment well, and that combined with my driving style, should fit well with racing sports cars. I'm excited to not only get this opportunity in a GT car, but an M3 - my dad has owned a few of them in the past. Plus Grand-Am races tend to be populated with a lot of drivers with Indy 500 wins, as well as other top racers, and that will be a great experience for me as I develop my racing resume. I hope I can be as successful and established in my racing career as they have been, and racing with them is a good place to start."
Rounding out the driving lineup in the #21 entry is sports car driver Orlam Sonora who comes with podium finishes in the American Le Mans Series, Mexican Formula 2 and Super Touring Series already on his resume, and looking to add Rolex GT to that list. "I'm very excited to have the opportunity to drive with MCM in this weekends race, I am a Cuban American that was born and raised in Miami and it's always very rewarding when I can represent the Cuban community and get to race in front of my friends and family," states Sonora. "This is a tremendous opportunity that Matt has given me and I'm up to the challenge, and look forward to driving with Sean. The GT class is very strong for this race, it has 26 entries and we ready to put the #21 MCM BMW M3 in a good position for the team."
