TRG Quickest in Saturday Practice at Homestead
Homestead, FL -- September 18, 2004 -- On a brutally humid and hot South Florida day today, the #67 Monster Cable Porsche of Kevin Buckler and Tom Nastasi topped the GT practice sheet, eclipsing the field in Buckler's return to racing after a massive wreck at Watkins Glen. The sister #66 F1 Air/Gleason Agency Porsche of RJ Valentine, Chris Gleason and Ian James went 4th fastest on the day. Because of the shortened schedule for the event due to Hurricanes Frances and Ivan, the #66 car will start tomorrow's race in 2nd place on the GT grid, and the #67 will start in 4th position. Qualifying was cancelled for the shortened event, and points determined starting positions.
Team owner Kevin Buckler, now fully recovered from his wreck in Watkins Glen, was happy with the day's results. "I'm really, really happy to be back in the car," he said, "and I'm proud of our guys and the team. The crew put in a heroic effort at rebuilding the #67 car from scratch, and that both cars were so quick right off the trailer says a lot about their skill. My co-driver Tom is great - he got up to speed in the Porsche incredibly fast. We all have to be wary of the heat down here -- it was extremely hot today, and it's going to be physically difficult on all of us tomorrow. We have to be careful to conserve ourselves, and I think the race is going to have two distinct segments --at first it'll be a race of speed, and at the end a race of survival. The heat is going to turn the track really greasy, and whoever manages their tires best will have an advantage on the competition."
He continued, "This is the first race of the season that I'm not driving with Liz Halliday. She's a great teammate and everyone's been asking after her -- we miss her, but she's done really well in her European races this year. "
The Miami 250 runs Sunday, September 19th, at 11am ET. Television coverage is LIVE on Speed Channel.
