ORISON - Planet Earth Motorsports Heads to Homestead
North Canton, Ohio - ORISON - Planet Earth Motorsports initial return to the SGS class in Grand American ROLEX competition resulted in lots of learning experiences and no podium finishes. That all changed three races ago when the team earned their first SGS win of the season. The following two races resulted in another win and one third place finish. The team hopes to continue increasing their on the podium total and is gearing up for Homestead.
"We have four races left. A good, strong race at Homestead is important to us for the season. If the last three races are any indication of where we are in our development, we will end the season very well and have a great race at Homestead," stated Crew Chief Mike Thomas.
The Planet Earth Motorsports team is eager for its trip to Homestead Miami Speedway during the second weekend in September. The Miami 250 is the 8th Grand American ROLEX series race for the 2004 season.
To strengthen ORISON- Planet Earth Motorsports' quest for another strong showing, the team has enlisted former Porsche Cup champion Mike Fitzgerald and teammate Manuel Matos. Mike is no stranger to ORISON - Planet Earth Motorsports, having won 3 races and 6 podiums for the team over the past several years.
Sharing the driver seat in the No. 41 car will be Joe and Will Nonnamaker. Joe recently scored a podium finish at the Watkins Glen weekend.
Manuel Matos will be sharing the No.43 Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche with 2000 Porsche Cup Champion of the world, Mike Fitzgerald.
"The past three races have been great for us. We have the ability to build on each positive that we have had throughout the season. Having competed earlier at Homestead this season will enable us to analyze the changes we have made. We would have liked to have more of that type of experience at Watkins Glen but the rainy weather really inhibited that. I look forward to some good track time at Homestead as well as a top five for our team," stated Joe Nonnamaker.
The ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsport team is able to pursue the Grand American ROLEX title with GOJO, Jack Link's Beef Jerky, Menards Home Improvement, Kempthorn Auto Mall, NRAuto.com, Castle, Red Line Oil, Shelton Porsche, SpeedSource, TheRaceSite.com, TheRaceMarket.com, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine & 9 Magazine as their partners.
