Graydon Elliott Fusion Racing with MSR luckless at Homestead
(Columbus, OH) 25 March 06-- Graydon Elliott Fusion Racing with MSR finished eighteenth in the Linder Industrials Grand Prix of Miami at Homestead Miami with Kenny Wilden and Mike Borkowski both having to recover after separate incidents sent them off-track and fighting to make up track positions throughout the race.
Wilden started the race from thirteenth on the grid, and had moved up into the top ten by lap twenty before contact while battling for position saw the Graydon Elliott machine falling back down the order as Wilden got the Lexus re-fired and back on track before turning the car over to Borkowski on lap thirty-three.
After rejoining the field in twenty-first position, Borkowski moved steadily through the pack up into twelfth position with fewer than forty laps to go. But the luck turned south once again as the No.6 was punted off the track by another car, forcing the team to fight to the finish in eighteenth.
"I don't know what he was thinking-he is normally a very clean racer but I think he just made a mistake," said Borkowski. "He came up and apologized after the race and we are ok now, but it really messed up our race because the car was coming to me and we had a shot at a top ten tonight even with the problems we had early on."
The result was a letdown for the Fusion Racing squad after having taken a strong podium finish in the Mexico City round earlier in March.
"This was a disappointing night for us," said Fusion Racing Managing Partner Dennis Bainbridge. "We suffered a lot from contact tonight, but we'll regroup and just get ready for Long Beach. It's going to be great to see the Rolex Series become a part of that event, and we're geared up to do well there and hopefully get on the podium once again."
