Law comes home second in round 2 of the Rolex Grand American Series.
Round two for the Rolex Grand American Sports Car Series got underway at Miami's Homestead Raceway for the Nextel 250 this past weekend. Darren Law completed a tough race to come home second in the new Daytona Prototype class and secure second in the points championship.
With temperatures in the 90's and humidity to match, it was a grueling race. After missing the first practice session of the weekend because of mechanical problems Law qualified his G&W Motorsports Picchio 4th in class. "We were happy with how quickly we got up to speed in qualifying having only run one session that morning." Law said.
At the drop of the green flag Law quickly moved into 3rd and tucked in behind Borcheller in the Doran Chevrolet. After just a few laps Law passed Borcheller and moved into 2nd in the DP class. Law held that position until the first fuel stop while the #58 Brumos Porsche of David Donahue, currently leading the DP class, had electrical trouble in the pits. Law continued on to battle with the second Brumos Porsche of Hurley Haywood and J.C. France. During the second round of pit stops Law brought the car into the pits in 2nd place overall. The heat was overbearing causing Law to turn the car over to teammate Shawn Bayliff.
The G&W Motorsports Picchio completed the race to achieve a 2nd place podium finish in the Daytona Prototype Class. Two podiums in two races "I like the sound of that" says Law. " We had a great car, G&W did an excellent job on the preparation for the race, the car was fast and reliable. I was the only driver this weekend trying to finish the race alone but the heat was just too much. It was a great finish for us and I feel with a little more development we will put the Picchio in the winners circle."
The next battle moves to Law's home town of Phoenix May 1-2. Speed Channel will air the tape delay of the Homestead Nextel 250 race Saturday, March 8th at 3pmEST.
