Chevy Sweeps Qualifying at The Glen; Ricky Taylor Wins Sixth DP Pole of the Season for SunTrust Racing; Robin Liddell Puts the Stevenson Camaro GT.R on the GT Pole

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (August 12, 2011) – Ricky Taylor put the No. 10 SunTrust Chevrolet/Dallara Daytona Prototype (DP) on the pole after getting around the 2.45-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen International road course in 1:05.962 (133.713 mph) to capture the team’s sixth pole position of the season in Grand-Am’s Rolex Sport Car Series completion.

“Last year was my first year with the SunTrust team, so, obviously, I can kind of get after it a bit quicker on the weekends, and we’re not wasting time trying to get me up to speed like we were last year,” Taylor said of the streak. “But I think the major thing is that our engineer, Brian Pillar, has done a really good job getting a good handle on the car early in the weekend, and then we have a little bit of time to make one or two small tweaks to the car that will help us in qualifying, and we don’t have to focus on just making the car manageable for the race, we can take a little time and make a change for qualifying.”

Jon Fogarty put the No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Chevrolet/Riley in the third starting position at the conclusion of the 15-minute qualifying session for Saturday’s two-hour Canadian 200 at The Glen.

The third Team Chevy DP entry, No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Chevrolet/Coyote, driven by Paul Edwards will roll off in fourth position in the 10th race of the season.

Robin Liddell qualified his No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro GT.R on the pole of the Grand Touring (GT) class with a lap of 1:14:179 (118.902 mph).

“We had a good pace this morning,” Liddell said. “We were quickest this morning, so I was fairly confident we could get the pole.

“We’re not worried about points, we’re just going for race wins, and, it looks like we’ve got a strong car.”

Other Team Chevy qualifiers in GT:

Gunther Schaldach, in the No. 07 Banner Racing Camaro GT.R qualified seventh in class.

Bill Lester, No. 88 Autohaus Motorsports Camaro GT.R, 16th in class.
