Darren Law raced to third in 2011 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype standings, completing the season with three podiums and a consistent string of top finishes. The Phoenix driver and his co-driver, David Donohue of Malvern, Pa., put the No. 5 Action Express Porsche-powered Riley on the podium at Homestead-Miami Speedway (Homestead, Fla.), Virginia International Raceway (Danville, Va.) and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (Montréal) in 2011. In 12 races, they finished out of the top six only once, at the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona (Daytona Beach, Fla.).
Although Law and Donohue have been co-drivers for eight seasons, the team around them was new this year, after a significant restructuring at Action Express. But Law said the crew quickly got up to speed and worked very effectively in their first season together. They were slowed a bit by the team's older chassis, but maxed the performance of every component.
"This has been a tough season for us," Law acknowledged. "We went through a lot of changes, but we always raced hard and got the most out of what we had.
"I am really proud of our team. The whole organization has really stepped it up this year. We had a tough fight this season, having to run the first-generation bodywork against newer-bodied cars. But we always raced well and the team is really working well together now after a complete restructuring of the entire organization. It is nice to end the points in a podium position."
Law said the team's 2011 performance bodes well for the future: "I'm really looking forward to 2012. I think it's going to be a great year!"
